James Cook They say beware of a wolf pack, they can strike quickly and with determination. That is exactly what happened to the Powell County Pirates when they hosted a pack of Wolfe County Wolves on Dec. 10. Wolfe opened the game on a 6-0 run in the first quarter and then used a three point attack to jump out 20-4. It was all Wolfe County from there. Powell fell hard to their neighbors, 67-38. Powell had difficulty with the Wolves full court pass, quickness and ability to control the boards. Despite having eight seniors on the roster, Powell is young when it comes to experience. Wolfe exploited that, nailing five three pointers on the first half and controlling the tempo as well as cutting off Powell’s chances for second shots. The Wolves led 36-15 at the half and spent the rest of the night increasing their lead. Powell did manage to put together a few short runs, but the visitors seemed to have an answer to any effort the Pirates put forth. The Pirates had difficulties at the charity stripe as well. Powell connected on just 4-of-18 from the foul line. Overall the night was not a good one for the Pirates or the Big Red Nation. Powell fell to 1-2 on the young season. Shayden Jones led the Pirates with 12 points. Jones was the only Pirate in double figures. Wolfe was led by Elijah Tolson with a game high 16 points. He was joined by Jay Johnson with 11 and Sawyer Thompson chipped in 10 points. Wolfe improved to 3-0. WOLFE 20 16 17 14 - 67 POWELL 4 11 12 11 - 38 WC: Gonzales 2, L.
